HIDEAKI KANAZAWA BIOGRAPHY

Hideaki Kanazawa is a Japanese double bass player. Hideaki began his career in 1977 with the Fumio Karashima Trio, working in the live venues of Tokyo. He went on to collaborate with many great jazz figures in Japan. In the 1990s, he contributed a great deal to the Japanese jazz scene, playing live and studio sessions with famous figures such as Sadao Watanabe, Herman Fosters, George Otsuka, Terumasa Hino, Duke Jordan, Motohiko Hino, Hank Jones, Yasuko Agawa, both nationally and internationally. In particular, Hideaki worked closely with Terumasa Hino from 2000 for 9 years as a member of his band. He works with musicians from other fields, such as blues, with singer Fusanosuke Kondo. Hideaki also formed his own band called KOJIKANATSURU.

Hideaki keeps the heat on his career developing projects under his own name while continuing to work widely with numerous musicians in jazz, blues and classic. He throws himself into developing young talent at professional level and also conducting a big band in a junior high school (secondary school) occasionally organises concerts for primary school children.

More recently, Hideaki began a project titled Nijuso (duet) with pianist Sumire Kuribayashi which has been documented in the recently released album of the same name. Nijuso will make their debut UK performance for Yokohama Calling on 6 June 2018 in London as part of a special collaboration. Details can be found here.
