Sensational jazz guitarist, May Inoue announces three special concerts in the UK.

May Inoue returns to the UK following his sell out shows at London’s famous Ronnie Scott’s jazz club and at The Cockpit theatre.

May caught the attention of jazz fusion guitar legend, Mike Stern who watched the show at Ronnie Scott’s where May wowed an enthusiastic audience and there was a queue of new fans wanting to talk with May after the show.

May will perform three shows – two with a quartet and one with trio.
Dates are:
15 November – MBM Trio a MAP Studio Cafe, London
16 November – May Inoue Band at The Verdict jazz club, Brighton
17 November – May Inoue Band at World Heart Beat, Embassy Gardens, London

YOCA – Yokohama Calling – Emi Watanabe, Nick Cohen, Patrick Wood, Jazzie Geoff

Everybody likes a FREE event and we have just that coming up on the 29 September.

Emi Watanabe – “Beyond Haiku” with Nick Cohen and Patrick Wood is a unique collaboration where Emi’s traditional Japanese flute is joined by soundscape/bassist, Nick Cohen and composer/producer, Patrick Wood. They will provide the sonic backdrop into which the Haiku and flute will blend.

The 8 Haiku are by Prof. Naokatsu Kato, and translated by Natsuki Sasaki. Prof. Kato specialises in Linguistics, Philosophy, Ethics and Literature. He is an honorary professor of Jichi Medical University in Japan.

DJ Jazzie Geoff will be spinning some of the coolest sounds on vinyl for your listening pleasure before, between and after the live sets.

Yokohama Calling – CONVERGANCE - Shinya Fukumori, BJ Cole, Iain Ballamy, Chris Montague at The Cockpit, London 20 October 2019

Yokohama Calling are very excited to announce a unique collaboration between four exceptional musicians. The resulting concert will feature Shinya Fukumori, BJ Cole, Iain Ballamy and Chris Mantague. This will be the only performance by this group and must not be missed.

The concert, tagged ‘CONVERGENCE’ takes place on Sunday 20th October 2019 at The Cockpit, Marylebone, London.

Yokohama Calling are very pleased to announce a very special one-off concert featuring the duo of Shinya Fukumori and Andrew McCormack. This will be their debut performance together. Details can be found on our Events page here.

Yokohama Calling – Shinya Fukumori and Andrew McCormack duo

Japanese drummer/composer and ECM recording artist, Shinya Fukumori is known for his melodic and rhythmic approach with a wide range of dynamics to drum-set playing and unique and sensitive cymbal-work, which creates a very distinctive sound. Shinya’s attention to timbre, detail and space is also reflected in the colour-fields of his free-floating ballads.

Shinya Fukumori’s recent album on the ECM label “For 2 Akis” has received great critical acclaim internationally.

British pianist and composer Andrew McCormack has built a diverse international career with many appearances at major festivals and concert halls all over the world. Andrew is a very popular jazz pianist and also has a keen interest in classical composition. Having studied with British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage, he has gone on to receive commissions from various ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra.

Andrew McCormack’s Graviton album “The Calling” has received rave reviews from radio DJs, music critics and musicians around the world.

Following our very successful concert of May Inoue & Friends at the London Jazz Festival, we have been publishing videos from the concert to our YouTube channel. The concert footage is from our show at The Cockpit, London on 25 November 2018. There will be a total of 11 videos from the concert, which are being published every Saturday at 12 midday GMT. May Inoue & Julian Burdock – London Conversation

Japanese jazz guitar star, May Inoue and much loved British blues/jazz guitarist Julian Burdock will give a duo performance in the intimate setting of Sway Gallery London.

This one-off show will feature these master guitarists in a musical conversation stradling jazz and blues.

This venue has very limited space and as such booking is strictly via our donation page where you will be required to enter your name to allow entry and make a donation of your choice for the music performance and a welcome cocktail on arrival.

 

May Inoue will be performing at the world famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London. The concert will be in support of the fabulous Mike Stern Band.

We’ve put together a very special trio for this one-off show that will feature  Julian Crampton bass (Incognito, Acoustic Alchemy) and Andrew Small drums (Massive Attack, Kylie) who together make a fantastic rhythm section. Along with May on guitars, this band is a serious groovin’ affair.

The concert will take place at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London on Saturday 24th November. Show begins at 7:00pm. Please note, this show is in support of the Mike Stern Band.

Japanese guitar star, May Inoue, will make his UK debut in style during the EFG London Jazz Festival where he heads a specially assembled band of exceptional musicians. At just 27, May has recorded three albums under his name to great critical acclaim.

May will be joined by UK musicians Jason Rebello (Jeff Beck, Sting) on keyboards, the formidable Jay Phelps (Empirical) on trumpet, drum sensation Kaz Rodriguez (Jessie Ware, Rita Ora) and the mighty Davide Mantovani (Andy Sheppard, Zoe Rahman) on bass.

The concert will take place at The Cockpit theatre in London on Sunday 25th November. Doors open 7:30pm.
